  1. I have a friend who is on her second pregancy, she is currently 21 weeks along. She had a C section for her first delivery since the baby was breached and there were no experienced doctors available with this experience. She was really hoping for a nature birth the first time around and is now wondering what her options are. Is it too late to switch to a midwife? Would she be required to have a spinal tap?

    • Hello Candice

It depends on where your friend lives and what midwifery practice she was looking to join whether or not it’s too late. At our practice, we are fully booked for most months and cannot take on any more clients. Other midwifery practices may have spots. If she is interested in switching, she should call the clinic and give her info and the secretary will be able to tell her the availability. As for experiencing a natural birth this time, it is very possible. If you check out the prenatal section of this website, there is information of VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) including a tool to aid her in deciding whether it is the best choice for her. Generally it is not required to have a spinal as method of analgesia in labour. Those questions could be discussed further with the midwives or doctor.

      Good Luck

  2. I would like to use a midwife but also deliver at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. I know Gentle Beginnings Midwifery have priviledges at Winchester Hospital, but could they also make arrangements to go to another hospital, for example QCH, even though they don’t have priviledges there?

    • No, we cant make arrangements like that unfortunately. The midwives who have privileges at QCH are Ottawa Valley Midwives. You can call them for more information. Good Luck.
